The Increasing Importance of Special Event Security
Updated: Nov 30, 2022
Now that Ontario is in Step 3 of the provincial Reopening Plan, many special events such as concerts and sporting events are starting to take place. With many people eager to return to these events, many risks can arise. Rest assured, many of these risks can be eliminated with the right special event security team in place.
Having the proper safety procedures in place is critical for both small and large events. While the procedure will vary depending on the type of event and the number of attendees, the basic security principles will remain the same: safety. For example, a large event may require crowd control through the use of barriers, and a small event may not. At Security Guard Group, our team can help you develop a plan suited to your event.
While detailed planning goes into an event to make it run as smooth as possible, threats can still arise. Medical emergencies, severe weather situations, and threatening attendees are just some of the hazards that can arise at an event. Responding to these situations with the appropriate communication procedures, emergency response, and potential evacuation, can be overwhelming for event organizers. Working with Security Guard Group means having a team there to assist with these unplanned situations. Our team is highly trained in emergency response, conflict resolution, and customer service.
Venue Protection and Rule Enforcement
No matter how detailed your security plan is, potential threats can still arise. It is critical to respond to any threats effectively to ensure the safety of all patrons and keep the venue itself from harm. One challenge that many event organizers face is rule enforcement. Specifically, many venues have specific rules in regard to alcohol. Our team can be there to enforce these rules to protect the venue and guests alike. We also ensure there is always one senior security personnel present to manage the rest of our team.
One area often overlooked during event planning is parking management. It is important to have a parking management plan in place to ensure adequate and safe parking for all patrons. This is especially true for larger events where there will be too many vehicles for event staff to oversee. At Security Guard Group, our Parking Enforcement personnel are highly trained on Parking Enforcement Bylaws specific to the municipality in which they are working. Our team is licensed under the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association of Ontario and can issue parking infractions for parking without a valid permit, parking in a fire route, parking in a designated disabled parking space without a valid permit, and parking in a non-designated area. Having our skilled team oversee parking management allows event organizers to focus on other aspects of the event.
While Ontario is easing pandemic restrictions, capacity limits and screening procedures remain in place. At Security Guard Group, we have a group of security guards trained to follow the screening process that London Health Sciences Centre has in place. Our guards are equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) and are prepared to screen and take the temperature of staff and patrons as they enter your event in an effort to keep everyone safe and healthy.
